For my portrait doll based on the John William Waterhouse Painting "Ophelia",
in the popular Dolls Magazine published by Jones Publishing,Inc.
Over 600 One of a Kind pieces have found new homes from 2002-present!
These pieces all begin as clay over a strong wire armature.
Most of the figures are 3-6 inches in height.
A careful attention to the figures gesture,expression,
choice of costuming and embellishments -
ensure each is a whimsical addition to fantasy collection!
The work of the Pre-Raphaelites is a big influence, not just Waterhouse,
but Rossetti, Millais and Holman Hunt are very influential for my work.
However the Pre-Raphaelites are not my only influence,
the various fairy traditions from around the world and Europe have been
a great inspiration. Whether it's the 'fees' (pronounced fays) in France
and the Hulda Folk (meaning people of the mist) from Scandinavia,
fairies are a constant source of learning.
